Meet Mary Beth Cooper

Mary Beth Cooper is the founder and CEO of Curvicality Magazine. Curvicality is a digital media platform and social media community specifically designed for plus-size women. Currently, the platform has more than 70K Facebook followers, which she calls her Curvicality family. 

The inspiration for the project came when Mary Beth and her dear friend Andrea were tired of the lack of media available for plus-size women. They wanted to read sites and magazines filled with options specifically tailored to their curvier bodies, not “photoshopped” women who wear a size zero. They also wanted to know more about fashion options available for women like them, as most of the stores in their area had closed.

As a result, Mary Beth incorporated Curvicality in January of 2019. Soon, women around the U.S. were involved in the project, passionately working to change the landscape of the media. 

Now, members of the Curvicality community share information on fashion, lifestyle, intimacy, body image, fitness and relationships, as well as personal essays on life, growth and body positivity. Thousands of women have joined in on Curvicality’s mission of creating body-positive media.

But what did Mary Beth do prior to founding Curvicality? 

Her background is in journalism. She was a freelance journalist specializing in investigative pieces, community affairs, mental health and general health and wellness. After the journalism market changed, she focused her attention on social media management and public relations. 

She earned an MBA (Master of Business Administration), which gave her the foundation of business building principles such as: marketing, strategy, problem solving, finance, leadership, networking and legal analysis. She uses those skills in her consulting work with plus-size businesses, models and influencers.
